21st Century Acid Tank Car Protection

HIGHLY CORROSIVE SERVICES - PROTECTING YOUR TANK CAR FLEET

You ship highly corrosive (Chlor-Alkali/ Acid) products and your metal tank car service equipment struggles. Perhaps you rubber line your components or have considered upgrading to more exotic metals.

What if you could get better corrosive and abrasion/ wear resistance? What if, in addition you could find a solution that offered exceptional high impact strength and operated within a large temperature range?

MEET UHMW-PE?

UHMW-PE stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. It has a strength-to-weight ratio 8-15 times greater than steel. It is resistant to a wide variety of harsh, chemically corrosive environments such as 80% sulfuric acid, 37% hydrochloric acid, concentrated caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) and concentrated Clorox bleach (sodium hypochlorite) to name but a few.

In addition to acid corrosive resistance, UHMW-PE also exhibits numerous other benefits:

  • resistant to environment stress-cracking

  • extremely high impact strength

  • self-lubricating (excellent wear and abrasion properties) which means it’s perfect for wet or frozen commodities which tend to stick to metal, viscous solutions or for slurries (both corrosive mining and general).

  • large operating temperature range (-452- and 250-degrees F)

  • USDA and FDA approved options for use in food and medical applications.

TANK CAR/ TRANSPORTATION APPLICATIONS

Raymond Bass launched his first line of UHMW-PE products in 1994, successfully selling in 2004. However, the bug for innovation and tinkering did not leave him, resulting in Raymond’s second engineered polyethylene liquid transfer company: - PolyPetroChem. With over 45 years of design and manufacturing experience, this new line of products, greatly improves on his initial designs that are still in use today.

Based in Texas, PolyPetroChem only machines UHMW-PE versus previous designs where molding (which may compromise the materials integrity) techniques were used. Instead, employing a variety of welding methods. Similarly, all stainless-steel components are machined (better structural integrity) and not cast, which can also lead to issues with porosity.

This new product line also incorporates new (patent pending) methods of interlocking components to increase sealing capabilities and reduce loss of vacuum, while extra areas of structural support resolve known weak spots.

Industries supported include rail, road and facility processing. Whatever your need, PolyPetroChem can design a custom solution to eliminate failures, downtime and cost.

3-2 MULTIFLANGE X REDUCING SPOOL EDUCTION PIPE

For all its multi-industrial expertise, PolyPetroChem’ s primary focus is the tank car & transportation industry, offering an array of standard products (many of which can be customized to fit your fleet).

  • available in 4- or 6-inch rail flange/ 3-2-inch multi-flange

  • anti-corrosive pipe (6x more abrasive resistant vs steel)

  • triple sealed/ no loss of vacuum

  • lightweight for easy installation

BLIND FLANGE

  • 100% machined components

  • Reinforced metal/ UHMW-PE welded cap

  • anti-corrosive & 6x more abrasive resistant vs steel

  • available in various sizes

TRANSQUIP USA -

In 2021, PolyPetroChem partnered with TransQuip USA to help develop new products specifically for the tank car market. Collaborating together, both companies engineering and marketing teams have been instrumental in developing a stronger understanding of the industries needs and finding both generic as well as customized solutions. Similarly, TransQuip is heavily investing in inventory to guarantee availability of PolyPetroChem products.

In addition, TransQuip is excited to announce it will be introducing a comprehensive stainless steel pressure car package and lined ball valves for general purpose tank cars (both for corrosive services) to complement PolyPetroChem’s product line.

TransQuip’s is renowned for its engineering and operational tank car expertise. Whatever your tank car needs, contact your local TransQuip Account Manager: (https://www.transquip.com/contact), email: sales@transquip.com or by phone: 904-388-6699
